How it Works:

We offer a range of transparent, flexible, and affordable investment advisory services through LPL Financial in order to best serve the interest and needs of our clients. And because we are associated with LPL Financial, the largest independent broker/dealer*, we have access to thousands of mutual funds, exchange traded funds (ETF’s), stocks and bonds, and have zero proprietary products. This means you can be confident that we have your best interest in mind when making investment recommendations.
In addition, LPL Financial serves as the custodian where your assets and securities are held. At Stockade Wealth Management, we never take custody of any client assets. This reduces the risk of loss due to fraud or theft in your account. Any trades executed are processed straight to and through LPL Financial, which means there will always be a record produced for any transactions in your account. You can be confident that your account statement reflects the true value of what you have in your account. Furthermore, LPL Financial will produce an account statement with detailed information regarding your account, typically on a monthly or quarterly basis.
* As reported in Financial Planning magazine 1996-2016, based on total revenues.

What it Costs:

We do our best to ensure that our fees are competitive and to minimize conflicts of interests. Our advisory fee is structured in such a way that when your portfolio does better, we do better and if your portfolio goes down, so does our compensation.
Typically, we charge an advisory fee based on a percentage of the assets under management (AUM). The fee is deducted automatically on a quarterly basis directly from any applicable investment account(s) being managed. We make this easy, so that you don’t have to worry about writing a check every quarter.
In certain circumstances, a commission could apply. This can include, but is not limited to: annuities and insurance products, 529 plans, alternative investment products, and investments accounts below a certain minimum size. In select circumstances, the commission is paid directly by the investment/insurance company and in other cases by the client.

See video below for explanation of Commission vs Advisory

For a complete fee schedule and details, please contact us. We would be more than happy to provide you with an estimate for your situation.

FINANCIAL PLANNING & CONSULTING

We understand that clients come to us from all different stages in life and careers and also with varying levels of financial needs, experience, and knowledge. This is why our financial planning and consulting services are designed to provide clients with the flexibility to engage us either on a one-time, as needed, or ongoing basis regardless of your income, net worth, or investable assets. Sometimes it helps to speak with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional about your most pressing financial concerns.

Below is a short description of the various financial planning and consulting services that we offer through LPL Financial.
(Note: These are all generally a one-time basis and do not include investment management services.)

Hourly/Project-Based Financial Planning & Consulting:

This is our most flexible program for offering financial planning and consulting services.  For those that may only have one or two pressing financial concerns that need to be addressed or really only want to focus on one particular area of planning, this may be the program for you. Some examples of questions/topics that can be addressed include:
  • Doing a retirement projection to see if you are still on track for retirement.
  • The best way to pay off credit card, student loan, or mortgage debt.
  • Determine the best time to start collecting Social Security to maximize your benefit.
  • Helping to settle the estate of a deceased family member.
Our fee depends on the amount of time and complexity of the situation. Our typical hourly rate is $250/hour (2 hour min). Generally, for those instances where we can accurately gauge the amount of work required, we may charge a flat fee for the planning project. Whereas, we may charge on an hourly basis if the amount of time required to complete the project is unknown or the planning work will be ongoing for an extended period of time.  We generally require half of the fee upfront, with the remaining balance due at the end of the planning engagement. In all cases, fees are discussed and agreed to in advance of any engagements. Free initial consultations are provided for new client relationships.

401k Retirement Plan Review:

Your 401k plan is supposed to be the bedrock of your retirement plan. So, how do you know if it is being optimized for your future retirement?
Many people enroll in their employer sponsored 401k plan having no idea of how their account is allocated or if they are even investing sensibly based on their investment risk tolerance and time horizon.
Additionally, many people are often frustrated at the lack of professional guidance and advice around the management of their employer-sponsored 401k plans. Typically, they have to turn to an online calculator or a 1-800 call center to get advice on how to allocate their account. In the end, sometimes it’s easier to just ask a co-worker how they are invested and go along with their suggestions.
It doesn’t have to be this way!
We believe that whether you are just starting out with your 401k plan or have been saving into your 401k plan for a while, everyone deserves an asset allocation plan and should have access to professional guidance.
As the cornerstone of your retirement plan, you shouldn’t leave it to chance!

Who is this service for?

This service is designed for anyone with a current employer-sponsored 401k plan that wants help in creating a personalized asset allocation investment plan for their 401k.

What’s included?

  • A review of your 401k plan benefits including any employer matches (if applicable), company stock or stock options, and available investment options.
  • Create a personalized asset allocation plan based on your investment objectives that factor in your age, investment goals, risk tolerances, time horizon until retirement and any other important factors.

What’s not included?

  • This is not a comprehensive financial plan or retirement plan.
  • This does not cover other employer benefits like health insurance or health savings accounts (HSA’s) etc.
  • This is not a continuous ongoing service, but rather a one-time engagement which can be done on an infrequent basis.

How does it work?

  • We schedule a call a few weeks out. During that time the client provides us with any important 401k plan information such as a recent quarterly statement, available investment options, and employer matching information, if any. (Note: many of these items would be contained in a summary plan document that you might of received when you first enrolled in the plan or might be available on the online portal.)
  • The client takes online risk assessment questionnaire to determine their “risk number”.
  • We schedule an initial 30-45 min call to gather the necessary information.
  • We schedule a follow-up 30 min call to follow-through on our recommendations and suggestions.

What does it cost?

We charge a flat fee of $450* (for 401k plans with less than 20 investment options) for this service. This is a flat fee regardless of amount of assets in your 401k plan.
*Note: For those with employer stock or stock options and/or more than 20 available investment options in their 401k plans, the fee may be higher due to increase complexity when dealing with such assets.
